WAR IN THE PACIFIC - IRON STORM v1.01 by Alikchi + AltNaval + CHS team ====== Installation ====== 1. Create an extra installation of War in the Pacific. This scenario uses art and ship slots that conflict with both CHS and the original War in the Pacific so this is essentially mandatory. 2. Patch to 1.60. 3. Download and install Andrew Brown's map (http://www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp.html). The scenario was built on version 3b but should work on later versions as well. (If not, updates will be released.) Make SURE you download the special map extension as well! 4. Download CHS 1.02. I reccoment Andrew Brown's package file available from Spooky's (http://mathubert.free.fr/witp_files/CHS/CHS_1.02_package_file-Andrew.zip/ , 22 mb) but you really only need the art files. Make sure these install correctly! Iron Storm uses CHS as a basis to work from and requires several aircraft including the G5N Liz. 5. Extract this zip file to your new War in the Pacific directory. The files should automatically fall into the necessary directories. You will have to overwrite some art files! Click "Yes To All". ====== Changes ====== For an extensive list of changes see Changelog.txt. For extensive backstory and specifics on the new ships and other changes see index.htm inside the MANUAL folder. However if you want to just launch into it headfirst, here's a quick overview ;) === JAPAN: The navy has been extensively changed. Ship construction since 1930 has been entirely different owing to the IJN's change in strategy. The real change is not focusing on the single climactic battle, a Pacific Jutland. The fleet is to form squadrons of fast ships with carriers in support to go out, find and kill the fleet train that the USN will need to get to the Philippines, not sink the battleships themselves. Play the man not the ball. The naval changes are very extensive so it would be best if you looked at the manual for the full story. The only change in ground troops is that several divisions and supporting units of the IJA have been released from China (Hankow area) and moved to Taan. This is in response to the British reinforcement of "Fortress Malaya". Trust me, you'll need those divisions... === === BRITAIN: Another large set of changes to both naval and ground forces. In this scenario the Italians were defeated in 1940 after Libya was conquered by General O'Connor and the Regia Marina was decimated in a night battle off Albania. (The root cause of this: No British entry into Greece. Metaxas stays alive longer.) As a result Mussolini was forced to resign by his own Fascist Grand Council and an armistice was signed shortly thereafter. The British immediately transferred forces to the Far East. At the same time, Lt. General Percivalwas bitten by a mosquito and came down with malaria. His replacement: General William Slim. (The British have been much luckier in the war so far, as you can see.. :D) By December 1941, Furious, Ark Royal, Illustrious, Formidable, Barham, Valiant, Warspite, Prince of Wales and Repulse swing at anchor in Singapore harbor. They are backed by an impressive force of cruisers and destroyers, heavy RAF reinforcements and formidable ground troops. Japan is nervous. Yamashita is sweating bullets. India has been reinforced, Royal Navy reinforcements only have to travel from Columbo, and more British troops and ships are on the way (including Hood). === === UNITED STATES: The US gets the worse of it in Iron Storm, if only to balance out the new British strength. ;) Changes are few. An extra P-40 and B-17E unit have been moved to Clark Field to simulate a greater American reaction to the rapidly growing Japanese fleet. No changes have been made to the USN except in position. The Enterprise is at San Diego with Saratoga. Saratoga is at anchor in Pearl (sorry Sara fans). As a consolation prize of sorts, Oklahoma, CL Phoenix and a few destroyers are in San Francisco undergoing minor repairs. === THE NETHERLANDS: The Dutch have acquired a fleet worthy of defending the world's second most profitable colony. In 1914, the Netherlands were on the verge of ordering their first battleships. A force of nine ships was envisaged by 1920 and these were to be built in German and Dutch yards. As a final alternative, Germany offered 3 Battlecruisers with the added caveat to subsidise the cost of these ships and the extra cost of docking and repair facilities in the Netherlands East Indies. These 3 ships - the De Zeven Provinciens - had been built in Germany and served in the German Navy during the war. These large ships revitalized Dutch interest in a strong navy, and an extra cruiser of the "Java" class was ordered. Finally, in the late 30s - following on the success of the De Ruyter and Tromp types - two new, powerful CLs were ordered of the Eendracht class. The ships were barely rushed out of the shipyards in time before the Netherlands were conquered, and served briefly in the Mediterranean with the British before moving to the NEI. Other than that, no changes for the Dutch, except for a few extra destroyers and improved experience and morale for most ground forces. === === OTHER CHANGES: I've upped the Japanese pilot pool to 150 but the replacement rate is still 10. Some changes to bases have been made - most of the bases in Malaya have extensive fortifications and a few have increased port and airfield levels. Soerabaja and Bandoeng have also received special treatment. ===
