Design Notes version 1.4, 11 AUG 07 This version (hopefully the last) for the first time requires an art package. Cathartes aircraft sides and tops are included in the art pack, and are necessary to play. This art pack is fully compatible with all stock scenarios (the added art will not interfere with a stock game). However, it is strongly recommended that you back up your existing art folder before you install the one supplied with this mod, the reason being - if you prefer the look of stock art or your existing art - you will want to have it available for use. To back up your stock art, simply copy and save the Art Folder to any other location you wish - so as to be able to put it back into the original WitP Folder to use again. For Naval Art - it is STRONGLY recommended that you download the new WitP Standardized Naval Art Set (it is NOT necessary - but it is a the best comprehensive naval art pack to date). See the WitP Forum. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not purport this to be the last word in OOB accuracy (though an improvement over stock WitP) but overall, this version will play very well; air combat has again been improved across the board, "flak gap" has been eliminated (though 85mm and higher guns will still fire above 30,000 feet). A very clean version overall. Primary changes in ver 1.4: China: ---------- The following changes have been made to Chinese supply: (1) Chinese supply levels have been adjusted as follows: NEW SUPPLY MODEL Location Heavy Industry Resources Daily Supply Yenen 180 180 132 Paotow Hengchow Pakhoi Changsha 180 600 Sian 60 60 300 Homan Kweichow Kunming 30 300 300 Wuchow 5 300 300 Tsuyung Nanning Kweilin Kweiyang Chunking 360 300 800 Chengtu 10 300 300 Sinning 300 Kunchang Lanchow 180 180 300 Lungchow Luichow Hami Tuyun ________________________________________________ Total 1005 |Total 2220 | Total 2732 Daily Hvy Ind |Daily Resources | Daily supply Combined Daily Total=5957 Combined Monthly Total (less Burma Road)= 178,710 Previous (1.31) monthly total(less Burma rad)=255,030 Stock Monthly Total (less Burma Road)= 134,250 This will definately restrict the Chinese Army from being over active. Aircraft: --------- All fighter aircraft have had their maneuverability increased - across the board. All Japanese aircraft At Start Pools have been reduced to 100 (exept for the D1A Susie). Additional aircraft must be built. The F1M2 Pete now comes in two variants - the Float Fighter and the original Float Plane type (in this game it is the F1M2a Pete). The Fighter version will upgrade to the Float Plane version - if the player so desires. Also the Fighter version has been beefed up with much increased maneuverability (up to 34 now), and machine gun firepower (as was done for Nate, Oscar, and the Claude earlier). The Oscar Ib has had it's armament increased to two .50's ( http://www.j-aircraft.com/research/rdunn/nakajima_ki43arm.htm ) Although not entirely accurate, the twin .50 armament was installed during the prototype stage, as well as being used in the field, and quite frankly - the Oscar needs it to perform well in this game. The interim P-40N-1 has been added, as it was the last pure fighter variant P-40 produced (over 400 made). This is the aircraft that select P-40E units upgrade to in Nov 1942. The will P-40N-1 upgrade to the P-51B in April 1944. P-38L has been added for 1944. Allied Bombers have had armor levels reduced to stock. Furthermore, allied heavy 4 engined bombers will come in at 1/2 strenght (example - a 48 aircraft group will arrive with only 24 aircraft) until late 1943. Also, replacement rates for 4E's will be 12 B-17s or 18 B-24s until late 1943. This will keep "8th Air Force" sized units from developing until later in the war. The Type 91 18" aerial torpedo has had it's dud rate decreased back to 10% (stock is 10%). The AVG: -------------- The AVG and the 23rd Fighter Group have been rolled into on unit called the 'Flying Tigers'. Historically, the AVG disbanded as the 23rd FG arrived to take its place, so the two units should not coexist. As both units were popularly referred to as "The Flying Tigers" during the war, I thought the generic name change was appropriate. All historical pilots have been rolled over into the new unit entity. Furthermore, the starting experience rating has been lowered to 68 (a very very well trained unit - but not combat experienced). Ships: ------------ Not much has changed, however PT Boats have had maneuverability increased from 92 to 98 as a survival change. Stock game PT boat losses are extremely too high versus the historical record. This will not give them added offensive capability, it just makes them more difficult targets. Naval gunnery has been standardized to outside sources concerning rates of fire. Land Units: ------------- No new land units added. However, many base force To&E's have been made unique to themselves, and no longer reference standard TO&E's. The reason being - some units were seen to grow equipment that they should not have had, while others could not re-acquire equipment that they came with. So this has been cleaned up. Data Base: --------------- Numerous data base errors were caught and cleaned up - such as duplicate commands, some units being improperly equipped, etc. Contributors to this Mod include: --------------------------------- Cathartes (artwork), kbad, kadrin, and myself. Also, Andrew Brown for the Extended Map version, and treespider for help with China. Also greatly contributing have been Castor Troy and Helpless for additional playtesting, and Captain Sherwood, for error checking and going over the Data Base. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________
